SPEAKER: Senator Beth Bye

Beth Bye is a State Senator representing the 5th District of Connecticut that includes Bloomfield, Burlington, Farmington and West Hartford. She was elected in 2010 and prior to that she had been a State Representative from West Hartford’s 19th State House district. She is a long time early childhood educator and advocate.

As a legislator she focuses her energies on education, the environment, economic development and equal rights for all. She was a champion for marriage equality and was proud to bring out the Transgender Rights Bill in the Senate, as well as the Dreamer's Bill, providing in-state tuition for undocumented students.

Sen. Bye serves as Senate Co-Chair of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee, is Senate Vice-Chair of the Education and Human Services committees, and is also a member of the Judiciary, Legislative Management and Planning & Development committees. Her diverse interests include education, economic development, services for people with disabilities, mental health care, the environment and expanding highspeed broadband access to the internet.

In 2001, Sen. Bye was named one of Connecticut Magazine’s “30 Young People of Influence,” and in 2015 she was voted “Best Politician” in the Hartford Magazine readers’ poll.

In 2017, along with 12 other women leaders in Connecticut, she founded PoliticaCT, a membership organization focused on progressive issues advocacy and electing more progressive women to the CT legislature.
